GEOGRAPHIC
AREA OF THE SCHOOL BOARD'S JURISDICTION Chaffey
College District serves the Cities of Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Upland,
Chino, Montclair, and surrounding areas of CA. WHERE
AND WHEN THE MEETING WAS HELD The
meeting was held in the Staff Dining Room of the college on Monday,
January 28th, from 7:00 to 9:30 PM. NAME
AND OCCUPATION OF EACH BOARD MEMBER Juanita
Knowsitall (Board President) - Owner of Juanita's Quick Stop Taco Shop and
Dry Cleaners. Henry
Beenthere - General Manager of the Tunatale Cannery. Willy
Orwonthe - Retired high school principal. MAJOR
TOPIC OF DISCUSSION AT THE MEETING Several
issues related to funding for various requests were discussed. The major
topic of discussion revolved around the current lawsuit to have the
Tunatale logos removed from the Fishbreath High School Band Uniforms. More
than 20 band members from Fishbreath High were in attendance to plead the
case for retaining the logos. Ms. Wilma Sourgrapes, who initiated the
lawsuit, was present at the meeting, but declined to comment on the matter
noting that the Board had previously failed to take appropriate action and
that the matter was now in the hands of the court. WHAT
I LEARNED FROM ATTENDING THE MEETING This
is the first school board meeting that I have attended and I was impressed
by the consternation of the proceedings. Everyone was given an opportunity
to say what was on their mind and everyone did. On the other hand, of the
seven items on the agenda for this meeting, only one was actually acted
upon by the board! |
